Allison Trottier
Orofacial Myofunctional Therapist · Board Certified Holistic Health Practitioner
Allison brings together a background in oral health, a foundation in developmental education, and dedicated specialty training in orofacial myofunctional therapy. Based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, she founded Atlantic Facial Myotherapy to guide children and adults through gentle, sustainable neuromuscular retraining.
A grounded clinical foundation
Allison practiced as a Registered Dental Hygienist from 2005 to 2024. Over years of clinical practice in preventive oral care, she observed first-hand how persistent oral resting habits—such as habitual mouth breathing, low tongue postures, and compensatory swallowing—can influence dental alignment, jaw comfort, and general airway wellness.
Originally from Ontario, Allison made the East Coast her home in 2010, establishing strong community ties across the greater Halifax area. She opened Atlantic Facial Myotherapy on a part-time basis in 2022 and transitioned to full-time practice at the end of 2023, creating a calm, specialist clinic where clients receive individualized time and dedicated attention.
An educator's heart and approach
Before entering dental hygiene, Allison worked as an Early Childhood Educator and taught English as a Second Language (TESOL) in South Korea. These formative years in education fundamentally shaped how she practices today.
Neuromuscular retraining is not simply about doing exercises—it is about learning new habits of body awareness and muscle coordination. Allison's ability to communicate complex biomechanical concepts in friendly, age-appropriate language helps children remain motivated and helps adults understand the "why" behind every step of therapy.
A holistic, non-invasive interest
In spring 2026, Allison also became a Board Certified Holistic Health Practitioner, continuing her interest in offering non-invasive options. This qualification reflects her commitment to looking at oral habits within the broader context of breathing dynamics, stress regulation, and holistic bodily harmony, and it supports her gentle ear acupressure (auriculotherapy) practice.
Her dental hygiene and myofunctional therapy work remain distinct from this holistic credential, which complements—rather than replaces—her clinical training. In Nova Scotia, Myofunctional Therapy currently remains a distinct treatment modality rather than an extension of dental hygiene practice or services.
